The Matthew Silvan Award

Matthew Silvan Award for Excellence in Psychoanalytic Research and
Matthew Silvan Research Fellowship

Established 2007

The Matthew Silvan Fund honors the memory of Dr. Matthew Silvan (April 7, 1961–September 30, 2006) and was established by the Silvan Family and NYPSI members.

Matthew Silvan, a young and esteemed graduate and member of NYPSI, was a clinician engaged in research through the Department of Dermatology at St. Lukes/Roosevelt Hospital. Early on, he gave up a career in clinical research to pursue psychoanalytic training.

The Matthew Silvan Fund is intended to allow clinicians/scholars such as Matthew to remain fully engaged in academic research during the period of their analytic training. The Fund’s initial activity has been to establish the Matthew Silvan Award for Excellence in Psychoanalytic Research by a NYPSI member. The Fund has also established the Matthew Silvan Research Fellowship to support psychoanalytic candidates at NYPSI who will utilize their psychoanalytic education as a way of enhancing their academic careers.
