    Second Annual Heavy MeNtal Variety Show

    A night of mind, brain, and magic. The Amygdaloids will play several suites of original songs on mind/brain topics: the mind-body problem, memory, emotion, unconscious processes, and mental disorders. Each suite will be preceded by a short (3 min) lecture on the scientific or philosophical foundations of the topic by Neuroscientist and Amygdaloid, Joseph LeDoux. During a brief intermission, the internationally acclaimed magician, Mark Mitton, will dazzle you with mind-bending and brain-twisting tricks of his trade.

    Musicians: Joe LeDoux (guitar and vocals); Amanda Thorpe (bass and vocals); Tyler Volk (lead guitar); Daniela Schiller (drums); Tamas Madarasz (cello); Jon Kanen (sax).

    Joseph LeDoux is University Professor and Henry and Lucy Moses Professor of Science in the Center for Neural Science and the Department of Psychology at New York University. He is Director of the Emotional Brain Institute and the author of The Emotional Brain: The Mysterious Underpinnings of Emotional Life and Synaptic Self: How Our Brains Become Who We Are. He is editor of The Self: From Soul to Brain (Annals of the New York Academy of Sciences) and co-editor of Post-traumatic Stress Disorder: Basic Science and Clinical Practice. His lab's research is aimed at understanding the biological mechanisms of emotional memory, particularly how the brain learns and stores information about danger.
