"Love’s not Time’s fool": Some Continuities, Discontinuities, and Alterations in Psychoanalysis During My Lifetime

    Tuesday, September 13, 2016
    8:00 PM

Heinz Hartmann I Award Recipient and Presenter: Anton Kris, MD

The quotation comes from Shakespeare’s Sonnet 116, which is all about the enduring and reliable nature of true love — “Love is not love that alters when it alteration finds.” Dr. Anton Kris will use it to emphasize the enduring nature of Freud’s contributions to psychoanalysis (continuities) along with discontinuities (starting with the epistemological recognition that the analyst must not attempt to be the arbiter of reality) and alterations (e.g., the participatory analyst; the revised view of countertransference).
