Strife and Excellence: Turning Points in the History of the New York Psychoanalytic Society & Institute

    Tuesday, May 6, 2014
    8:00 PM

"Strife and Excellence: Turning Points in the History of the New York Psychoanalytic Society & Institute" with Drs. Sander Abend, Anton Kris, Theodore Shapiro (panelists) and Drs. Harold Blum and Leon Balter (co-moderators)

This panel will take up a number of historical turning points at NYPSI. Changes in educational policy, in Institute practices, and, most important, in ideas about psychoanalysis will be reflected in presentations by the participants and in the discussion to take place among them. What landmark ideas and practices emanated from the early members of NYPSI? How did they evolve over time and why? What kinds of responses did they evoke? How did they serve or dis-serve the Institute's reputation? What bearing might they have on the future of psychoanalysis? Such is the nature of the questions to be considered.

Funding for this video recording has been provided by the American Psychoanalytic Foundation through the American Psychoanalytic Association.
